Local author and Anglican priest launches new book “Feasting on Hope”

Hannah Miller King, an Anglican priest who lives in Canton, has released a new book, “Feasting on Hope: How God Sets a Table in the Wilderness.”

A book launch will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Panacea Coffeehouse in Waynesville as part of a Shrove Tuesday meal. A pancake dinner will be served, along with a talk by King on fasting & feasting, Lent and the nature of Christian hope.

Book proceeds will benefit Haywood Pathways Center. The event is sponsored by The Vine Anglican Church of Waynesville, where King serves as Associate Rector.

Blending personal memoir with theological reflection, “Feasting on Hope” explores how the Christian practice of Communion offers real nourishment for people living with grief, unanswered prayers, and unmet longings. Drawing on her own story of childhood loss and years of pastoral ministry, King presents hope not as denial of pain, but as something experienced and sustained in community.

Each chapter reflects on how the Lord’s Supper anchors believers in God’s present faithfulness while pointing toward the future renewal of all things. The book is written to be accessible to readers from a wide range of Christian traditions.

“Our Father has spread a table in the wilderness for us,” writes Douglas A. Sweeney, dean and professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School at Samford University. “Hannah Miller King’s reminder of these supernatural blessings is a word spoken in season.”
